Where to Stay when in Siquijor : The Bruce Luxury Private Cottages

Getting to Siquijor is very tiring. I remember getting on a Ceres bus from Cebu to Liloan, Santader port at 2:30am in the morning and  arriving at the mystical island of Siquijor by 11:00am, the exhaustion was overwhelming that lying in bed was the first thing on my mind that day.

Most of the resorts are found at the coastal area of San Juan. Our guide was kind enough to introduced us at The Bruce  Luxury Private Cottages. We checked in at a cottage (P1,200)  fronting the beach, non-aircon, with hot and cold bath, built-in kitchen and a veranda.

The veranda has the relaxing view of the beach. The white sand beach of San Juan is just perfect for a walk, socializing with the locals and enjoying the serene nature.

The Bruce has  a pool so you have an option of cooling off there or on the beach. They even have free WiFi access by the pool, how cool is that?

I spent my morning coffee with Siquijor sea breeze kissing my cheeks, feeling the fine sands under my toes and gazing at the fluffy clouds with the blue ocean underneath. It took me a few minutes to realize that I was accompanied by stray dogs. This dog on my right happens to dig portions of the sand to make himself a bed to chill in, while the other one was gazing at a distance, preoccupied with a lot of thoughts running in his mind. They happen to be just there, pretending that I wasn't there -- a visitor at their usual spot. Wait, these dogs  could be aswangs right? Nah. Who would believe such things?

The Bruce has  another cottage with rooms. On our second day, we spent at one of these with a fan, hot and cold bath, no kitchen  but with water heater and  the interior was  good and provides a comfortable bed. I had the best sleep in my life.

Look, they even have a tree house for Php 750!

Cottages lined up fronting the beach.

The provide the basic things you need : hot and cold bath, a fan, kitchen, a small refrigerator, water, a veranda and a comfortable  bed for Php 1,200 a night.

The tranquility of the place gives you that inner peace.  After all the  day's adventure, sitting on the beach  with this sunset view is just relaxing.  Mark and I ended up star-gazing every night. It's been a while since we've done that.  That myriad stars shining brightly against the black skies was just amazing.

We had dinner at Dagsa Restaurant, situated right across the highway and a walking distance from the resort.  I totally love the ambiance; from the dim lights, interior design, with bean chairs and a cat roaming around the resto. Their stir-fried shrimp  inferno was superb.

Enjoying the sunrise reminds us to be thankful for the everyday blessings God has showered us. I was thankful God has given me a good life, not nearly perfect but I know everyday I am blessed with a loving family, a promising career and being able to help others in my own simple way.
